Charge Stripes and Antiferromagnetism in Insulating Nickelates and Superconducting Cuprates

چکیده
Neutron and X-ray scattering studies have provided strong evidence for coupled spatial modulations of charge and spin densities in layered nickelates and cuprates. The accumulated results for La2−xSrxNiO4+δ are consistent with the strongly-modulated topological-stripe concept. Clues from Nd-doped La2−xSrxCuO4 suggest similar behavior for the cuprates. The experimental results are summarized, and features that conflict with an interpretation based on a Fermi-surface instability are emphasized. A rationalization for the differences in transport properties between the cuprates and nickelates is given.

First time determination of the microscopic structure of a stripe phase: low temperature NMR in La(2)NiO(4.17).
The experimental observations of stripes in superconducting cuprates and insulating nickelates clearly show the modulation in charge and spin density. However, these have proven to be rather insensitive to the harmonic structure and (site or bond) ordering. Using (139)La NMR in La(2)NiO(4+delta) with delta = 0.17, we show that in the 1/3 hole doped nickelate below the freezing temperature the s...

We show that many observable properties of high temperature superconductors can be obtained in the frameworks of one-dimensional self-consistent model with included superconducting correlations. Analytical solutions for spin, charge and superconductivity order parameters are found. The ground state of the model at low hole doping is a spin-charge solitonic superstructure. Increasing of doping l...

– We study the quantum transition from an antiferromagnet to a superconductor in a model for electronand hole-doped cuprates by means of a variational cluster perturbation theory approach. In both cases, our results suggest a tendency towards phase separation between a mixed antiferromagnetic-superconducting phase at low doping and a pure superconducting phase at larger doping. However, in the ...

Even before the experimental discovery of spinand charge-stripe order in La2−x−yNdySrxCuO4 and La2−xBaxCuO4 at x = 1/8, stripe formation was predicted from theoretical considerations. Nevertheless, a consistent description of the complex coexistence of stripe order with superconductivity has remained a challenge. Here we introduce a Hartree–Fock decoupling scheme that unifies previous approache...

Twenty five years after discovery of high-temperature superconductivity (HTSC) in La2 xBaxCuO4 (LBCO), the HTSC continues to pose some of the biggest challenges in materials science. Cuprates are fundamentally different from conventional superconductors in that the metallic conductivity and superconductivity are induced by doping carriers into an antiferromagnetically ordered correlated insulat...
